A Romantasy Inspired Engagement Session in the Landscape of Southern Idaho
I cannot tell you how excited I am to give you a glimpse into this engagement session from last spring. This session was a beautiful start to the year and definitely set the tone for my approach to all my 2024 sessions and weddings.
If you follow my instagram you may have seen me post a time or two about my love for reading, and especially my love for reading the new romantasy (a mix between romance and fantasy) genre. I try to post about it as much as I can because it has been so much fun to make connections with my brides this year over our love for reading. One of those brides was my best friend Amy. We actually met through a facebook group for making friends in the Boise area (yes I can confirm those pages work!). And ever since we gush over our love for the books we read! One of those series being the very popular ACTOAR series. This just had everything we love in a book from the setting of the night court to the healing journy the main characters went through together.
Ever since we met we’ve talked about her dream engagement photos and how she would love to incorporate those night court romantasy vibes into her and her husbands session. And let me tell you we accomplished that!
Amy came in with the perfect vision for these photos. She choose this beautiful location in Southern Idaho that just gave all the vibes of the mountain peaks around the setting in ACOTAR. Of course to go with night court black she wore this stunning gown from a boutique in California her home state. The sparkles in this dress and the all black formal attire was just pure night court, romantic, dreamy vibes.
My approach to this session came from taking inspiration from the books themselves and taking a look at the fanart artists who have been inspired by this series have brought to life. This gave me a whole new look on capturing couples and bringing in that romantic feel that you just get from reading a good book.
Quick Tip: If you are a reader or not, using Pinterest to gather inspiration for your photos is a fantastic tool to use in the planning process for your session. This can greatly help inspire the vibes, colors, and overall feel you want your photos to show. AND definitely share your inspiration board with your photographer. Speaking from experience I love seeing my brides mood board for their photos because this it not only helps use be on the same page but gives me so much new inspiration in preparing for a photoshoot.
All this to say you should definitely bring in your love for reading and the worlds within them into your engagement session.
