Idaho Capitol Building Engagement Session

In honor of Valentines day, I thought it would be fitting to share this romantic engagement session from January. Because these seriously fit the vibe!
Let me tell you I am obsessed with Jess’s vision. During our initial call we went over her ideas for their engagements and wedding. It had me kicking my feet I was so excited because this was SO up my alley. Now I won’t spill the details for their wedding this fall, photos & details will be shared then! But let me tell you its going to be so good!!
Her vision for her engagement session left me speechless. She wanted their photos to be in the Idaho Capitol for them to have a romantic, ethereal and timeless feel.
Quick Tip: If you’re looking to have your engagement photos done in the colder months and don’t want to freeze. Do them inside! There are so many great locations around the valley for this.
Come January 20th, I was so excited for her photos! The lighting was perfect that day. With an overcast sky it created a beautiful cool light that seeped in through the windows. Which complimented all the colors so well.
One of my favorite places to start in the Capitol are the steps to the left when you walk in. And this day, the window had the prettiest light reflecting off the walls. I saw this and knew we had to shoot in these areas.
After shooting there for a little while, we made out way to one of the prettiest rooms in this building. It’s a sitting room on the 2nd floor and has the most gorgeous colors that accented the scene perfectly. With the way the light comes in from the windows and the colors of the room, it created a perfect moody and romantic feel.
Quick Tip: You don’t need any permits to have your photo’s done at the Idaho Capitol. We only need to be respectful of the space and mindful of the visitors there. Other than that we are free to shoot all over the inside and outside of the building (except for blocked off areas).
Of course we had to make a stop at the elevators!
Then we headed to the top floor where the lighting really shines into this building. If there’s one location within the Idaho Capitol to get your photos done in, its this space. Not only does it have the best lighting, but also a variety of gorgeous backdrops for your photos.
Last we ended their session off by headed to the lowest level of the Idaho Capitol. This was the my first time shooting in this area of the building, and it is now a favorite that I will have to go to every time. With the shapes of the opening to the upper levels and the lighting cascading down, we had all the ethereal vibes.
This is a session that’s going to live rent free in my head for the next few months. And is setting the tone for sessions to come. 2024 is the year for all the romantic feels in photos!
